Get your International Driving Permit BEFORE arrival — it cannot be issued in Japan. The community 2-seater is about ¥/$10 a day; Body Auto Sakurai handles proper rentals. Left-hand driving, genuinely narrow roads: pull over for oncoming cars and exchange the little wave. 止まれ means a FULL stop.
